'I'd like to sit down and introspect'

Surreal experience

All set to make his Bollywood debut in the steamy horror film ‘Alone’, popular television actor Karan Singh Grover says that it has been a “surreal” experience working with co-star Bipasha Basu.

“It has been lovely working with her (Bipasha). It was a very surreal experience. I never thought when I got my debut it would be with such an amazing person,” he says.

How was it working with ‘Dhoom 2’ actress? “She made me feel so comfortable starting from the first day. At first, when you are supposed to do a scene with her, you realise you are working with Bipasha Basu and your jaws drop because you are in awe of her. But she makes you feel so comfortable that you forget all that. We actually have a lot in common and I feel lucky to have gotten this chance.”

On the much-publicised drowning incident involving Bipasha in Kerala, he says, “Everything you hear in the news might not be true. The day before (the incident), she (Bipasha) told me that she doesn’t want to do this scene because she’s scared of water. But I told her not to worry, that water is my territory and I won’t let her fall. Then I was trying to show off by going really fast and doing 360 degree turns, four times. The fourth or fifth time, I stopped but unfortunately the jetski was still in motion and it toppled a little. She fell and I jumped in after her.”

When asked about his fashion statement, he jokes, “When I wake up in the morning, I look like Mowgli from ‘The Jungle Book’! But when I’m done grooming myself, I end up looking like myself!” He adds, “My philosophy is ‘anything but ordinary’ — that’s the way I live my life and dress. I try and mix and match things that most people don’t. If I look foolish, I do.”

Karan’s latest tattoo says ‘anything but ordinary’. The actor has a collection of inkings, including a dragon on his arm and Archangel Michael slaying Lucifer on another.

What plans does he have for New Year’s eve? “I don’t have any plans as such, will be busy working as the release is around the corner. Even if I get a couple of days off, I’d like to sit down and introspect - on life and the future; on where it should be heading.” Is his life heading in the right direction? “Everything is where it’s supposed to be. I’m not sure where I’m going from here but this is where I had hoped I’d be,” he says.

On what he’s looking for in the future, he says, “As an actor, I don’t pick scripts based on the genre. If it’s a good story, I go for it. Even when I watch films, I like ones that keep your attention till the end. If there is a twist and everyone gets a shock, it’s something I look forward to and excites me.” He says his all-time favourite movies are ‘The Matrix’ series and ‘Fight Club’.
