Uthappa hopes to get WC nod

Robin Uthappa, one of the 30 probables for the 2015 World Cup, backed himself to bat on the  bouncy pitches of Australia, and hoped his good form would be noticed by the Indian selectors while the picking the final list.

Uthappa has made a bright start to the season with three fifties in three innings, including an unbeaten 70 in Karnataka’s second innings against the Railways in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match.

“I always enjoy playing in Australia. I like the bounce, it comes on well, It really suits my game. It’s something I have always been excited about. In fact, this time when we went to Australia with the India A side, we got really low and slow wickets and it was disappointing,” Uthappa, who made comeback to the ODI team this year after a long gap, told reporters on Tuesday, “Since it is the middle of their season right now, I think the wickets will be good and conducive for fast bowling, the ball coming on nicely to bat. I have had a lot of success playing in wickets like that, especially in Australia and South Africa. So, hopefully if given the opportunity, I will  try my best.”

The 29-year-old said he “loves wicketkeeping” and was willing to adjust himself to the requirements of the team. “I am happy to have a decent amount of success this year. I want to better the performances. I have some decent standard for myself and I want to live up to them. It is a pretty long season and I am confident of doing well,” said Uthappa.
