Trial court summons Soren in murder case

A Giridih court on Monday asked Soren, also Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief, to appear before it on February 3 in connection with the Kudko murder case registered against him way back in 1974. Four people were allegedly killed by Soren and his men.

First Additional District and Sessions Judge N N Singh had summoned Soren to appear before the court on January 4 in connection with the case. “The court has directed Soren to appear in person before it on February 3 after he pleaded his inability due to engagement in the ongoing Jharkhand Assembly session. In accordance with the directives, my client would appear before the court on February 3,” said Soren’s lawyer Prakash Sahay.
The JMM chief is involved in the murder that took place in Giridih’s Kudko village where a mob led by him allegedly barged into one Babu Rai’s house, dragged him out and beat up three others for sharing a meal with Rai. While Rai died on the spot, the others succumbed to injuries.

Ten people were named accused in the case. In 1985, the court acquitted eight, while another accused died in the course of the trial. The court, however, has already framed charges against Soren.
