Forced to give up job, teacher kills herself

A young teacher at a private university in Uttar Pradseh committed suicide allegedly after being forced to resign from her job by her husband.

A postgraduate in Microbiology, the teacher at a university in Moradabad, about 350 kilometres from here, consumed some poisonous substance at her home at Majhola in the town on Tuesday.

Police sources said she had left a suicide note in which she mentioned that she was upset on being forced to quit her job. “My husband has forced me to leave my job.

What should I do now?,” she wrote in the note found lying near her body, police said.

Police suspected that she poisoned herself to death. “Prima facie, it appears that she has committed suicide by consuming poison,” a police officer said. According to the reports, she was married a year ago and her husband, who hails from Moradabad, works in Delhi.

Sources said he did not want her to continue work but stay at home. The victim, who was a bright student wanted to pursue higher studies but was ready to shift to Delhi as well, thinking that she could get a job there.She had resigned from her work barely a week ago.

She was being pressurised by her husband to quit, her father claimed. “My daughter was under tremendous pressure,” he said.

He said his daughter had been working even before her marriage. “At the time of marriage, they (the groom and his family) did not make any objection,” he added.

A case has been lodged against the man, his parents and another person. “We are investigating the matter. Her husband will be interrogated shortly,” the police officer said.
