Bars to stay open till 2 am on New Year's Eve

The City police have decided to allow bars, pubs and liquor joints to remain open past midnight on December 31 (till 2 am on January 1), in view of the New Year celebrations.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar has issued an order in this regard after considering the requests by owners of various liquor outlets.

He said that the police had received requests from hotels and restaurants located in the limits of the Commissionerate of Bangalore City Police to keep their bars (places licensed under form number CL-4, CL-9, CL and CL-7 issued by the State Excise Commissioner) and restaurants open beyond midnight on December 31. Kumar added that an order granting permission to such outlets to be open up to 2 am on January 1, 2015, has been issued.

The police have issued a general no-objection certificate to allow hotels and restaurants to remain open beyond the stipulated hours, he said.

However, the owners of liquor outlets have been directed to obtain permission from the State Excise Department to keep open for additional hours on New Year eve, he added.
While the order is also applicable to restaurants and eating joints that do not serve liquor, these establishments would not require any permission from the Excise Department, Kumar said.
