UoM seeks rare photographs for centenary souvenir

Editorial Committee to select photographs and articles

Among the several activities taken up ahead of the centenary celebrations of the University of Mysore (UoM), is a compilation of the history of the varsity. The souvenir, aims to chart key moments of its history, since it was bifurcated from Madras University in 1916 and set up at Maharaja’s College premises.

O Anantharamaiah, retired vice-chancellor of Kuvempu University, who will edit the souvenir, said that even though there were enough photographs and articles related to the varsity in its archives, attempts are being made to collect rare photographs or articles that might be available with the public.

Rare photographs, such as the old office of the vice-chancellor and registrar of UoM at Maharaja’s College premises are with the varsity.

Apart from it, photographs of the likes of Annie Besant, Dr R Radhakrishnan and others at the varsity have already been compiled. Since, several eminent personalities have either studied or visited UoM, collecting details of the important persons among them and adding it to the souvenir, will add sheen to it, he said.

Apart from the souvenir, a work on the histories of various departments of the varsity, will also be published during the centenary year. Respective departments have been entrusted with the task of compiling its histories, he said. 

Rajshekar H, Secretary of Centenary Celebration Committee said that the varsity had requested the general public to submit any rare photographs or articles related to UoM, copies of which might not be with the varsity.

The Editorial Committee will select the photographs and articles that are fit to be in a souvenir, after collecting them, he said.

Interested persons can mail the photographs and articles to uom100years@uni.mysore.ac.in or contact 0821-2419451.Books Anatharamaiah said that among the other publications that will be released by the varsity will include a book on Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, in English and Kannada and a work on Sir M Visvesvaraya.
