Woman found dead, family alleges murder

Last Updated 29 December 2014, 03:31 IST

A 24-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself at her home in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area on Sunday morning. Her parents, however, suspect she was killed for not giving birth to a son.

Police said they were in the process of registering a case of cruelty by her husband. No arrests were made till late on Sunday night. The matter will be probed by a sub-divisional magistrate as the woman was married for less than seven years.

Samiksha was married to Naresh four years ago and they had a two-year-old daughter. The couple lived at Naresh’s home with his parents in Krishna Nagar.

The in-laws called up Samiksha’s parents at about 11 am on Sunday to inform that she had hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room.

“The body was brought down from the fan even before we could reach the spot. We saw the body in the hospital, but it looks unlikely that she committed suicide. There were no marks on her neck and her open hair suggests she was beaten before being killed,” her relative Pappu said.

Her father Ramesh Rathore said there were no demands from the family for any dowry as they had already spent a lot during the marriage. “But her in-laws were not happy that she had given birth to a girl. They wanted a boy and would often harass her ” Rathore said.

Samiksha’s husband and in-laws would also allegedly beat her whenever she objected to their demands for a male child, said Rathore. Police said they are investigating the allegations.
