State to come out with a Public Safety Act

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that the State government will soon come out with a Public Safety Act on the lines of the one in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to the media after the high-level meeting with the Home department, Intelligence bureau and the State Police, Siddaramaiah said that the draft was already in place and the final notification would be issued shortly.

“Under this Act, we will ask all establishments, which have more than 100 footfalls a day, to install CCTV cameras in front of their shops, restaurants, bars and stores. With this, there will be proper coverage of all the vulnerable areas,” he said.

It is said that the Home department has already studied the AP model of Public Safety Act and will introduce the same in Karnataka in a tailor-made format.
