Shivam, Varun wreck Gujarat

Spin duo share 10 wickets among them as Delhi score massive win

It took Delhi all of 22 minutes to wind up Gujarat’s tail and march to their third straight victory, an innings and 109 runs, on the fourth and last day of the Ranji Trophy Group B contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here on Wednesday.

Gujarat, beginning the day at 152/7 following on and 123 runs behind, were packed off following the addition of a mere 14 runs by the Delhi spin duo of Varun Sood and Shivam Sharma. The two had rattled the Gujarat batting in tandem on Tuesday and returned to put the finishing touches this morning. Shivam dismissed overnight pair of Jesal Karia (37) and Pranjal Sutaria within three balls to reduce Gujarat to 162/9. Karia was caught at mid-on while Sutaria was trapped leg before by Shivam who finished with 4-52 in the second innings and overall figures of 6-91.

Left-arm spinner Sood then removed Kushang Patel in the next over, getting another leg before decision, to finish with the match figures of 10-96, including a second innings tally of 6-43. His effort earned him the man of the match award.

This win was also Delhi’s second successive win with a bonus point and made them the table-toppers with 20 points from three matches. They will now travel to Lahli to play Haryana in their first away fixture of this season, beginning January 5.
