JD(S) gets Oppn leader's post in Council

  Leader of the JD(S) in the House M C Nanaiah is all set to become leader of the Opposition. Ugrappa had been holding the post of opposition leader for 16 months. His term as MLC ended on Tuesday.

With the retirement of three nominated members - Chandrashekhar Kambar, Mallajamma and Prakash Rathod - on January 20, the strength of the Congress will come down to 16 in the House. The strength of the JD(S), after recent elections the council, went up to 17.

However, the Congress is expected to get the status of principal opposition again in June this year. Elections will be held to fill up 11 seats which will become vacant with term completion of seven members.
