Head post offices to sell Tirupati darshan tickets

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Executive Officer D Samba Siva Rao on Monday formally launched the issuance of Rs 300 special entry darshan tickets in all the head post offices (HPOs) of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Speaking at the launch event at the Tirupati HPO, he said the TTD has entered into an agreement with Department of Posts (DoP) over the issuance of Rs 300 darshan tickets which facilitates a devotee to book the ticket even from a remote area.

He said the TTD had launched the project on pilot basis on December 1, 2014 in five districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “After receiving positive response from the masses, the TTD, along with DoP, has extended the facility in all the 95 HPOs in both the Telugu speaking states and also in Narsampet and Madanapalle Bazar sub-post offices. He said this method of booking will be more pilgrim-friendly rather than internet booking or e-darshan since majority of people, especially rural masses, will have easy access to post offices.

The executive officer also said that in the wake of complaints over the internet booking of Rs 300 tickets, the TTD is also contemplating to ensure internet booking in the post offices which have internet facility. Over the request of Chief Post Master General B V Sudhakar to enable the booking of accommodation and marriage hall in HPOs, he said he will look into the possibilities.
