<p>Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao on Friday stressed on the need to utilise the communication facilities to upgrade health services in rural areas and strengthen public distribution system.<br /><br /></p>.<p>He was speaking at the valedictory of 9th India Conference of Global Communication Association where various people were given awards under different categories.<br /><br />Justice Rao said the advanced communication facilities minimised the loss of human lives and properties when Hudhud hit the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. <br /><br />He, however, lamented the underuse of communication in the health sector in rural areas.<br /><br />“We have not started using communication at all. Many rural areas have poor infrastructure.If the communication infrastructure could be improved, then the poor people may not have to come to cities. Our development should be in the direction of improving health conditions,” said Justice Rao.<br /><br />Union Minister for Law and Justice, D V Sadananda Gowda said credibility and honesty in the field of communication can go a long way in improving various facilities in the country.<br />Editor of Deccan Herald K N Tilak Kumar, who spoke on the occasion, said the outcome of the two-day conference of the Global Communication Association will benefit society.<br /><br />Awards<br />Awards under different categories were presented on the occasion. Veteran journalist K Satyanarayana (Media), Prof Asha Paul of IIM Ahmedabad (Academics), Akshay Heblikar of Ecowatch (NGO), B N Kumar of Concept PR (PR agency) and Seema Ahuja of Biocon (Corporate PR) received the awards.<br /><br />In the government sector, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike got the award and the Palike Commissioner M Lakshminarayana received it. Special award was given to Syed Riyazathullah, the public relation officer of the Karnataka Lokayukta.</p>
