JOIN USOver 75 persons including members of Action for Animal Justice and residents of Herohalli, on Sunday staged a protest against the death of stray dogs in the area after some miscreants poisoned around 50 dogs and dumped their carcasses in the Herohalli forest area, adjacent to the Bannerghatta National Park.
Ravi Narayan, the founder of Action for Animal Justice said that the incident was inhumane and they were seeking justice for the animals which died after consuming the briyani laced with poison.
“Animals have the same rights to live as humans do and the perpetrators should be booked for their crime. A complaint has already been registered with the Herohalli police,” he added.
Ravi said the animals which died had neither been vaccinated nor neutered. As the area does not come under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) and anti-birth control (ABC) programmes are not carried out here, he added.
He said they were planning to request the Zilla Panchayat members to conduct ARV and ABC programmes in the area.
He alleged that the miscreants had intentionally poisoned the food. A similar incident had occurred a few days ago in Goripalya where food laced with poison was fed to stray dogs and crows in the neighbourhood, Ravi added.
