Small car from Fiat soon

“The small car will be even smaller than its present model, Grande Punto, and will be developed in Italy. It would be an India-specific car and designed for Indian needs,” Rajeev Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of the company said.

The preliminary work on the car, expected to compete with Hyundai’s i10 and Santro hatchbacks, has  had already begun, he added.

The company, a joint venture between Italy’s Fiat SpA and India’s Tata Motors Ltd., joins a host of auto makers who have announced plans to launch small-car models in the country. The company on Wednesday launched new car Fiat SpA 500 at the Auto Expo.
