More women set to join Metro workforce

More women are set to join the Namma Metro operations with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) all set to recruit 40 female personnel. In addition, as many as 105 women will join as train maintainers for the metro service, in the next one month.

The BMRCL, for the first time, has provided 30 per cent reservation for women in tune with the policy of the Karnataka government. The BMRCL conducted recruitment examination recently and the results were declared on Monday.

As many as 20,117 applications were received for the 350 posts of maintainers. A total of 1,491 women had applied for the posts.

Similarly, 2,325 women had applied for 130 posts of train operators. A total of 15,005 candidates had applied for these posts.

BMRCL officials said that the recruitments were made as new metro lines would be made operational shortly. At present, the Corporation has 200 train operators and 227 maintainers. BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said that more and more women would join metro workforce with the adaptation of reservation policy.
“ The new recruits will join service after training,” he said.
