Thieves drilled into the wall of a jewellery shop in Muneshwara Block, Banashankari 3rd Stage, on Sunday night and made away with five KG of silver and 500 gm of gold ornaments, together worth Rs 25 lakh.

The burglary emerged on Monday morning after Sunil Kumar Jain, owner of Ganesh Jewellers, opened his shop.

The police further said the burglars had entered the shop through an abandoned nursing college building adjacent to it. The building was deserted as the institution was relocated, the police added.

The burglars drilled a hole of about one-and-half feet into the building where the shop is located and went in. They also destroyed CCTV cameras installed inside, the police said. The CCTV footage shows a man entering the shop and some masked men moving around, said the police.

“We suspect the involvement of local people in the burglary. There are some leads and we would arrest them soon,” DCP (South) B S Lokesh Kumar said.
