Held for harassing colleague

The Sampangiramnagar police on Tuesday arrested a man on the charge of harassing his colleague.

Nitin Sharma, a resident of Sudhamanagar and an employee of a private company located on Lalbagh Main Road, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim.

The victim (25), a resident of Basaveshwaranagar, has alleged in the complaint that Sharma had tried to misbehave with her in the office. He used to pass indecent comments about her. She had warned him earlier but he continued his old ways, said the police.

On Tuesday morning, the victim approached the police and made a complaint. By the time the police reached the office to arrest Sharma, seven persons from a pro-Kannada organisation had barged into the office and physically assaulted Sharma.

The police took him into custody and rushed him to a hospital. The jurisdictional police booked the accused on the charge of molestation.

They also arrested seven men who assaulted the suspect, based on a complaint lodged by Srinivas, Sharma’s colleague. They are identified as Jairaj Naidu, Raghu Kumar, Chandrashekar, Dileep, Razak Rahim, Kantharaj and Venugopal.

“The police are trying to find out if the victim had approached these people for help. Seven persons have been booked for rioting, mischief and threatening. They will be dealt with strictly for taking law into their own hands,” an officer said.
