The residents of Hale Alur might have not bothered to take a second look at a century-old red-tiled house, on its way to ruins.

After television channels flashed headlines that A S Kiran Kumar, a Kannadiga and a native of Alur taluk, Hassan district, had been named the chairman of Isro(Indian Space Research Organisation), the spotlight turned on the house.

A few elderly persons from the village directed the mediapersons to the ancestral house belonging to Kiran Kumar where he once spent his childhood.

A S Mallappa, Kiran Kumar’s father, was the president of the Hassan Town Municipal Council during 1974-76. He began practising as an advocate for some time in Hassan and later shifted to Bengaluru.

Born in Alur, Kiran Kumar completed his primary and high school education at the municipal school in Hassan. Once his family shifted to Bengaluru, he pursued his college education at the National College in the capital.

He visits Alur occasionally and is presently settled in Ahmedabad, after he joined the Isro. The residents of Alur are proud of Kiran Kumar for making it to the top.
