Jamiat tells Muslims to celebrate R-Day, I-Day

Last Updated 16 January 2015, 19:07 IST

Deeply disturbed and pained with Muslims being branded “terrorists, separatists, oppressors and aggressors” by a section of communal forces, Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind president Hazrat Maulana Arshad Madni on Friday asked the community to celebrate events like Independence Day and Republic Day in a big and grand manner.

“We must celebrate national days in  big way,” Madni said in a statement ahead of addressing the national integration conference at Kurla in Mumbai. He said communal forces are trying to distort the great services rendered by Muslim elders.

“These forces keep accusing us of being terrorists, separatists, oppressors and aggressors. But Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind will not let their nefarious designs succeed.

Therefore, exactly after ten days, on 26th January, which is our Republic Day, organise the celebrations of this day with full pomp and splendor and explain with clarity to the whole nation what great sacrifices your elders had  rendered for the country,” he said.

Expressing faith in secularism, he said it should be protected. “This country is a democratic country and will always remain so and it will be sheer misfortune of the whole country if an attempt is made to deviate from the path of secularism,” he said.
