Last Updated 25 May 2009, 19:25 IST

The results, declared here on Monday by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), showed that 10,914 candidates were found eligible for the medical seats and 62,275 for engineering. But hundreds of candidates, who felt they had scored well, found their ranks missing. Confused and clueless, parents and their wards stood outside the KEA office seeking some response from the authorities. KEA officials cited problems related to the candidates’ “under-age”. A number of these candidates had appeared for the ISC and CBSE examinations.

Anish Bhat P from St Aloysius Pre-University College Mangalore emerged as the topper in medical/dental and Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) while Naveen Bhat Y of Sri Sathya Sai Lokseva PU College Mangalore secured the first rank in engineering.

Priyanka Dharamshi from Chetan PU Science College  Hubli was the topper in Architecture.

Twelve candidates from Bangalore figured in the list of the top 40 rank holder in medicine, engineering, ISM&H and architecture. As many as 1,16,376 of the 1,20,434 candidates who had applied for CET were found eligible for admission to the medical and dental, ISM&H, engineering and architecture courses. Based on merit, 10,914 candidates are eligible to the Medical and Dental courses, 42,152 candidates for ISM&H streams, 62,275 for Engineering and Technology and 505 candidates for Architecture courses.

A total of 1,807 MBBS, 60,617 engineering and 840 BDS seats will be available for students. BE aspirants could choose from 24 different streams in engineering and technology courses in 162 colleges across the State.

Under the medical seat matrix for 2009, 52 per cent of seats are held by the government while private managements have 48 per cent. Engineering seats are shared equally. The detailed results will be published at 227 examination centres across the State.

The seat selection process will start on June 4 for special categories and from June 11 for medical and dental courses.
