Bizman kills wife, hangs himself too

Money trouble suspected

A 45-year-old businessman was found hanging and his wife was found dead with her throat slit in their house in west Delhi’s Tagore Garden on Saturday.

Though no suicide note was found in the three-bedroom house, police suspect the man committed suicide after killing his wife.

Govind Ram Gangwani, who hailed from Haryana’s Mewat district, ran a printing press in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. He lived with his 42-year-old wife Nisha and three children.

“A blood-stained knife has been recovered from the house,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar said. Govind was suffering from depression, he added. “He was taking medicines for it.”

The incident came to the fore when the couple’s daughter returned home at 4 pm. She rang the doorbell several times, but did not get any response. She then went to a neighbour’s house and returned after 30 minutes, but again did not get any response.

“She alerted some neighbours and informed her siblings. They called the couple’s mobile phones, but found them switched off, and later informed police,” Kumar added.

A police team reached the house and found the main door bolted from inside. On breaking the door, police found Govind hanging in the drawing room and Nisha lying in a pool of blood in another room.

Govind’s children told police that he was facing a financial crisis and was finding it difficult to sustain the printing press. “We reckon that Govind was facing a dire financial shortfall that forced him to take the extreme step,” Kumar said.

The bodies were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after a crime and forensic team inspected the house.

They have been preserved in the mortuary and will be handed over to relatives after post-mortem on Sunday. A team from Rajouri Garden police station is investigating the matter.
