Its national president, H D Deve Gowda, said the party would store its office material in that shed.

But hours later, lawyers representing Ramalingeswara Mutt, a Hindu religious institution in Haranahalli, Shivamogga district, arrived at the place and demanded that the JD(S) stop the construction of the shed, saying the land was under dispute.

High Court order

They cited an order by the High Court, which stated that status quo be maintained at the property. One of the lawyers for the mutt said that his client had laid claim to the land located on the southern side of the JD(S) headquarters.

Earlier, Gowda visited the spot and inspected the work on levelling the vacant land. “The government is dilly-dallying on giving us an alternative land. In order to abide by the Supreme Court verdict, we have decided to pack our bags and store the office material in a temporary structure on the vacant property behind our office. The vacant property is also under dispute, hence we are constructing only a temporary structure,” he said.

Gowda added that he would to write to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, appealing to them to allot land for the JD(S) office. “The Congress has got two sites, the BJP has got one.
