Trinamool MP in dock over Rose Valley scam

Even as the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal combats the effects of the Saradha scam both legally and politically, the spectre of another chit-fund scam has come to haunt it.

While many of its leaders and ministers face accusations of having made money in the Saradha scam, Trinamool MP Tapas Pal is facing heat from the Rose Valley scam, which, according to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), is six times the size of the Saradha scam.
The ED, which is probing the money trail in the Saradha scam along with the nuances of the Rose Valley scam, has found that Pal served as a member on the board of two Rose Valley group companies between 2009 and 2011.

“He was a member of Rose Valley Marketing India and Idea Projects during this period and could have used his influence and public persona as a popular actor in Bengali films to help raise money,” ED sources told a news agency.

They added that Pal was appointed director of Rose Valley Marketing India in August 2010, and served till February 2011. He was also one of the directors of Idea Projects from March 2010 till August 2010.

“Pal was allotted a Director Identification Number by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. He is most likely to be interrogated in relation to this soon,” an ED official said.

Pal, however, denied any connection with the scam. “I worked for the publicity campaign of Rose Valley Group companies, like other filmstars. I had no other role in the company’s affairs,” he said.

An elected Trinamool MP from the Krishnanagar Parliamentary seat in the Nadia district, Pal had run into trouble last year when during the campaign for the Lok Sabha polls he threatened at a number of public rallies to have women supporters of opposition parties raped and murdered.
