'Jagruth Bharath' in the city from Jan 30

Launched by Ramakrishna Mission, the programmes include Swachh Mangaluru

On the occasion of birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda, to create awareness about cleanliness among youth, Ramakrishna Mission is organising ‘Jagruth Bharath - Awakened India’ programme in Mangaluru from January 30 to February 2.

Briefing reporters, at Ramakrishna Math here, on Tuesday, Adhyaksha Swami Jitakamanandaji said programmes will be held on the theme ‘Shakth Manas-Sashakth Bharath’ for degree students at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of the Math from 9 am to 3.30 pm.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim will inaugurate, while Alva’s Education Institution Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva will be chief guest. Rev Swami Atmarupanandaji Maharaj (USA), Vijay Nath Bhat (Mysuru), Prof K Raghothama Rao (Bengaluru) and Tejasvi Surya (Bengaluru) will be resource persons.

On January 31, from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, programmes will be held on the theme ‘Swacch Manas- Swacch Bharath’ for degree students. Telangana State Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Director Dr Janardhan Reddy will inaugurate the programme.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof Byrappa K will be the chief guest. Indian Green Service Project Director C Srinivasan will be the special invitee, he said.

The main attraction of the series, ‘Swachh Mangaluru’, a novel initiative by Ramakrishna Mission will begin on February 1.

MLA J R Lobo will inaugurate the Swachh Mangaluru Jatha organised by around 2,000 people including 1,500 students from NSS, Scouts and Guides, at 8 am. The jatha will reach Ramakrishna Mission through Clock Tower, A B Shetty Circle, Corporation Bank, Pandeshwara and Srinivas College.

Workers to be honoured

Entrepreneur Dr B R Shetty will inaugurate 40-week programme ‘Swacch Mangaluru’ at Ramakrishna Math. Mayor Mahabala Marla will handover the cleaning equipments to volunteers. Nitte University Chancellors Dr N Vinay Hegde will release a table top calendar with Swamy Vivekananda’s quotations. As a token of respect for those who keep city clean, 100 civic workers of MCC will be honoured on the occasion.

2,000 students

MCC Opposition leader and local Corporator Premanand Shetty said: “On February 1, around 2,000 students will participate in the cleanliness drive. They will be divided into 50 groups and one would lead each group. Not only the roadsides, but even the corners of the wards will be cleaned during the drive which would continue till 12 noon. Later the drive will continue 40 different places on every Sunday, in association with the students, organisations and political parties. At least 200 students will participate on every Sunday.”

On February 2, programme will be held on the theme ‘Swacch Manas- Swasth Bharath’ for paramedical students from 9 am to 3.30 pm. Nitte University Chancellor Dr N Vinay Hegde will inaugurate the programme.

Dr M V Shetty Group of Institutions Chairman Dr M Ramagopal Shetty will be the chief guest. Manipal University former chancellor Dr B M Hegde will participate as resource person.

Ramakrishna Math Convenor Athmaroopa Chithanya, Member Dilraj were also present.
