Legal cell for minorities panel sought

The Karnataka State Minorities Commission has submitted a proposal to the State government on formation of a legal cell for the panel.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Chairperson of the Commission, Balkhees Banu said that of late innocents were being arrested on the basis of the religion they profess and
the proposed legal cell would render assistance to such people.

The cell would also strive to impart legal literacy to the youth, she added.

“ Extremists have no religion or caste. I condemn their acts in harshest words,” Banu said.
She said that district-level committees had been formed for implementing Prime Minister’s 15-point programme. The commission has taken steps to ensure that the benefits of welfare programmes reach the target group, Banu said.
