Gowda passes on Hassan mantle to grandson

JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Sunday announced his decision to retire from electoral politics after formally introducing  his grandson Prajwal Revanna into politics.

Speaking to reporters after giving primary membership of the JD(S) to Prajwal, son of H D Revanna, Gowda said he will not contest next parliamentary elections from Hassan.

“I will not contest the next elections from Hassan. Let my son (Revanna) and grandson (Prajwal) take care of Hassan politics,” he stated.

Poll campaign
Prajwal, 24, who is a mechanical engineering graduate, plunged into the political arena during 2014 Lok Sabha polls by actively campaigning for Deve Gowda in Hassan.

Prajwal is being groomed to contest the next parliamentary polls from Hassan, a constituency being represented by Gowda, the party sources said.

He participated in the JD(S) rally held at Bengaluru Palace Grounds recently and announced that he would soon officially join the party.

He obtained the party’s primary membership at Gowda’s Padmanabanagar residence. Gowda announced his decision to retire from electoral politics after inducting Prajwal into the party. Gowda has not given any position to Prajwal in the party yet.

Prajwal said that he got inspiration from his grandfather, father, uncle and aunt to join politics and he will strive to serve people.
