Mysuru-based model-turned-actor Suraj Gowda can charm anyone with his ‘boy next door’ looks. While anyone would assume him to be perfect for the lead role in a romantic movie, he says he loves action-packed roles.

This young actor, who has just wrapped up shooting for ‘Kahi’, is looking forward to his next project which is a Bollywood one!
In ‘Kahi’, Suraj plays the lead role of a rich man’s son.

“We just finished shooting. My character is of a psychopath and an alcoholic, and the movie is entirely shot in Bengaluru.” The actor, who moved to the City a couple of months back, says that it is interesting to shoot in the city one lives in. “It is a really different feeling. This is how one learns to overcome stage fear since there will be your own people watching you, while you work. If I was shooting in Mumbai or elsewhere, the feeling would have been something else,” he says.

Suraj is elated about ‘Adventure’, his latest project from Bollywood, which will be directed by Janardhan Shivalanki. “For a person like me, who comes from a small place, this is a dream come true. My friend was close to the producer of the movie and that’s how the auditions and the role happened. There will be five leads in the movie and they wanted a South Indian actor.” He says that the movie will be a thriller. “I am not allowed to reveal more details, but it will be a crowd-puller.”

He adds excitedly, “I still keep pinching myself. This is something I have wished for since I was a child. There are so many people I look up to in Bollywood and it took me a while to accept.”

The actor, who completed his engineering degree, wanted to be seen on the silver screen from a tender age. “I was very young when the film ‘Baazigar’ released and when I was watching it in the theatre, I saw the excitement of the people and how they were cheering for SRK. I wanted to do something like that; make many people happy,” he says.

This fresh face in the movie business has worked in commercials, walked ramps, been on a reality show and even worked on a music album. “My journey has been interesting. My parents wanted me to be an engineer or a doctor. But, I was passionate about acting.

In Mysuru, there were less opportunities and I wanted to explore all sorts of media to get exposure. I had acted in an art movie during my college days too. I thought modelling was an easier way to start off,” narrates Suraj.  But he strongly believes that if a person is a good actor, he will get the chance he deserves. “Networking does count too. But a good actor will always score above any good looking average actor. One will get a stage to perform on, but it is on you to utilise it to the best.”

In contrast to his looks which would work well for romantic films, he loves action movies. “Action movies have a mass appeal,” he sums up with a smile.
