Pilgrim trains launched in Chennai

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched a series of pilgrim special tourist trains for various places, including Shirdi, Mantralayam and Nava Jyothirlinga yatra, from here on Monday.

IRCTC general manager L Ravikumar said that the departure date for Shirdi, Mantralayam route titled “Guru Krupa Yatra” was fixed for February 5 and the total journey will take seven days.

“Routing stations will be Madurai, Trichy, Tanjavur, Kumbakonam, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chennai Egmore. The minimum fair for this tour was fixed at Rs 6,370,” he told reporters.

The official said that for “Nava Jyothirlinga Yatra,” the journey date is February 14 and the routing stations will be Madurai, Erode, Salem and Chennai central. “The minimum price tag for this tour is Rs 12,740 for the 14 day trip,” he added.

With 13 coaches, the total carrying capacity is about 600, he said, adding that tour security personnel will be available in each coach to escort tourists during the travel.

“They will also safeguard the belongings of tourist while they are on tour,” he added.Ravikumar said a public address system has been installed in each coach to convey information during the course of the journey.
