After former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Home Minister in the present BJP government Gulab Chand Kataria has been detected with swine flu.

Kataria is presently taking rest at his home town in Udaipur but officials deputed with him confirmed about him suffering from the deadly flu.

The health machinery swung to action on Monday after the news of two top politicians having been diagnosed with swine flu spread.

With 12 deaths in the last 48 hours, the number of victims to the swine flu outbreak in the state has touched 51. About 203 people have also been tested positive for the deadly H1N1 virus.

Soon as the tweet on Gehlot’s swine flu condition was posted, the state health department began an intense survey of Jaipur’s upscale civil lines area, which is home to politicians, the chief minister and other ministers.

The survey team began their work from the chief minister’s residence. One person deputed at Health Minister Rajendra Rathore’s bungalow was suspected to have contracted swine flu, though the report on his condition is still awaited.

“We have begun the survey all around the city, as well as a massive awareness campaign,” said a health department official, confirming that 51 have died and 203 have been diagnosed with swine flu so far.

After the large number of deaths, Jaipur’s district administration has also started to take preventive measures against the spread of H1N1 virus.

Following the directive of the district collector, all school goers in Jaipur will be tested individually for swine flu. Health officials have strictly instructed school managements not to hold their morning assemblies or prayers.

“Students are also our top priority when it comes to screening,” Jaipur collector Krishan Kant said. “All the students will be screened and elaborate instructions have been given to schools.”
