CBI probe sought into medical seat scam

Last Updated 03 February 2015, 19:38 IST

Shivalingaswamy, the complainant in the Ambedkar Medical College (AMC) seat scam case, has demanded that a CBI probe be ordered into the irregularities.

He refers to a letter by S Gurappaji, one of the founding trustees, to the Central Crime Branch (CCB), which is presently investigating the case, that a few trustees pocketed the money collected from students under management quota. The CCB is probing into the case of swindling of donation money, up to Rs 51 crore in three academic years.

“The letter from the founder trustee to the DCP (crime), after the case was transferred to CCB, narrated how a few trustees credited meagre amounts of money to the college, while pocketing the lion’s share of the donation money. Despite the letter, the CCB is yet to file the charge sheet,” Shivalingaswamy said.

Between 2011 and 2014, among the students (668) who dropped out after getting through the ComedK entrance test, 73 had opted for the AMC. The fees they paid to ComedK and the college (Rs 2.6 crore) were refunded to them through cheques. But the money was fraudulently credited to the account of the AMC principal at the Corporation Bank in RT Nagar.

After this account was closed for some reasons, the cheques for 2013-14 were credited to the principal’s account in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. These surrendered seats, which turned into management quota, were sold at Rs 70 lakh each and the money was pocketed by the trustees, the FIR stated.

“The son of Amanullah Khan, the main accused, called me up and threatened me to withdraw the complaint. The police have taken no action against the accused. Instead, the police registered a case filed against me by Khan,” Shivalingaswamy said.
