Parents of 17-year-old Kamalika, a Class VIII student of Kedriya Vidyalaya here who committed suicide, have written to Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani seeking justice for their daughter.

Kamalika committed suicide on January 20 after she was rebuked by her teachers. She jumped to death from the seventh floor of her residence.

Her bereaved father Kishalay Das has sought justice from Smriti as the school comes under the purview of the Union government.

“We want nothing but justice and punishment for the teachers who pushed my daughter to take this drastic step. We are hopeful of getting a positive reply from the minister. We want the government to ensure that this kind of thing never happens with anybody else in the future...This is my plea,” Das told reporters.

The parents have accused three teachers of abetting suicide. Das further said that though an FIR was lodged with Bidhannagar South Police Station on January 24, four days after the suicide, the police have not taken any action or even interrogated anyone in connection with the case.

“I have met top police officials on February 2 but they seemed unconcerned. If nothing happens I have plans to go to the next level. I want justice at any cost,” Das said.
