Teen rowdies detained under Goonda Act

Two notorious rowdies were booked and detained under the Goonda Act on Tuesday by the Mico Layout police. 

The arrested are Aboobakar, 19, a resident of Vinayakanagar in JP Nagar, and Arafat, 19, from JP Nagar 5th Phase.

Police said the duo was involved in a series of criminal cases, including murders, double murders, armed robberies and attempts of abduction in Ashok Nagar, Mico Layout, JP Nagar and Chamarajpet areas. They had terrorised the areas and action under the existing legal provisions had failed to reform them.

Keeping in view the safety of residents, the police decided to invoke the Goonda Act to arrest them. 

Police said that Arafat was in judicial custody. He would engage in criminal activities by directing his associates from inside the prison.

Chain-snatcher detained 

A notorious chain-snatcher was booked under Goonda Act and arrested by the Yelahanka police. The suspect is Anand Ramanna, 26, a resident of Chikkaballapur.Anand was involved in a series of chain snatchings in Bengaluru City. There were several cases pending against him. He did not cooperate with the police during his interrogation.

The victims and others who had witnessed his criminal activities had not come forward to share the information with the police as he had threatened them against any such attempts. The police decided to detain him under Goonda Act as he posed a threat to safety and security of citizens. Moreover, punishments under the existing law failed to reform him. He was arrested after being booked under Goonda Act, police said.

Five thugs in police net

The Central Crime Branch police claim to have thwarted a gang’s attempt to eliminate their rival gang leader, by arresting five men in Rajagopalanagar on Tuesday night. The arrested are Madhu, Shridhara, Shiva Kumara, Vijay Kumar and Salman. The police have also seized lethal weapons from them.

On a tip-off, the police intercepted the gang at a desolate place when they were planning to murder ‘Kottambari’ Kumar and commit an armed robbery. However, four others - Raghuvaran, Shiva Kumar, Giri and Pradeep - managed to escape. Madhu is wanted in 10 cases and Sridhara in four cases.

In another incident, the HAL police arrested Seshadri on the charges of house burglaries and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs eight lakh he had stolen from various houses. During interrogation, he confessed to burgling nine houses in Whitefield and HAL area.

Woman robbed

Two unidentified persons robbed a homemaker of her valuables in Rajagopalanagar area on Tuesday night. Pushpalatha, 35, a resident of Rajagopalanagar Main Road, in her complaint, has stated that a man and a woman entered her house and asked her if she would rent out one of her houses.

Even as she was about to reply, the duo threatened her at knifepoint, snatched away the 30-gram gold chain and gold earrings she was wearing, and Rs 5,000 in cash. They also tried to break open the almirah. When Pushpalatha told them the almirah keys were with her parents who had moved to Doddaballapur, the duo escaped.
