A homealone elderly woman was found dead at her house at Chowdeshwari Layout, Yelahanka on Wednesday. The victim is identified as Eshwaramma, 75.

The assailants robbed her of gold chain, rings and earrings, said the police.
“Eshwaramma was murdered for gain by someone known to her family. There are definite leads about the suspects. We will arrest them in a couple of days,” a senior police officer said.

Eshwaramma’s husband Lakshminarayanappa passed away a few years ago, while her three sons and a daughter are staying in separate places. Ishwaramma was staying alone in the house for a long time, the police said.

She was murdered late on Tuesday night. There was no forceful entry into the house. When the victim’s friend Akkayyamma, 75, came to meet her, the door was partially open. She entered the kitchen, but did not find Eshwaramma.

She entered the bedroom and found Eshwaramma dead. She immediately informed about the murder to a neighbour who in turn called up the victim’s grandson Shekhar and alerted him, police said.

After being informed by the grandson, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem. The murder might have taken place after 8.30 pm as she was seen talking to her neighbours around that time.

The police collected call details and information about regular visitors to her house. The police also collected data about domestic helps. It is a matter of time before we arrest the assailants, said the police.

Pedestrian killed

An unknown pedestrian was killed on the spot after a car mowed him down near FTI Circle in Yeshwantpur traffic police limits on Wednesday. The accident took place when the victim was trying to cross the outer ring road, police said.

The car driver lost control of the vehicle and mowed down the pedestrian around 3 am. The victim was tossed up in the air, fell down and came under the wheels. He suffered massive injuries and was killed on the spot.

The police arrested the car driver, identified as Kiran, for causing the death due to reckless driving. The police shifted the body of the victim, aged around 50 years, to M S Ramaiah Hospital, police said.

Woman kills herself

A gazetted officer committed suicide at her house on Commercial Street on Wednesday over ill-health. She was identified as Veena Hegde, 48, a resident of Shivanna Shetty Garden. Veena was working as a forest manager attached to Lake Development Authority in Parisara Bhavana on Church Street. She was married to Srikantha Sharma, a businessman and had a son, Vikram Hedge, a law student.

According to the police, Veena took the extreme step as she was suffering from a disease. In a death note, she stated that she decided to take the extreme step due to ill-health. She also said in the note that nobody was responsible for her death, said the police.

She hanged from a ceiling fan when she was alone at her house after 11 pm. The incident came to light when her son returned home.

The post mortem was conducted at Bowring Hospital and the body was handed over to the family members, added the police.
