Cultural variety to mark Mandya's platinum jubilee celebrations

Platinum jubilee celebration Cultural Committee president MP C S Puttaraju said, all efforts were being made to make the completion of 75 years of formation of Mandya district, after bifurcation from Mysuru, memorable, and a variety of programmes have been chalked out.

Addressing a media conference, here, on Friday, he said, cultural programmes will be held at all the three venues designated for the celebrations — the main stage at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium, Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira and exhibition grounds.

Natana troupe of Mandya Ramesh will stage play ‘Chama Chaluve’, Sudha Baragur and troupe will present a humour show and Beereshwara Nataka Mandali will enact play ‘Kurukshetra’ on February 17. 

On February 18, Rangayana troupe will stage ‘Krishnegowdara Aane’ and ‘Sita Apaharana’. Prakash Kala Sangha will enact ‘Shishupala’ and Mandavya Professional Photographers’ Association will stage ‘Sri Krishna Sandhana’, while ‘Ravana Parivarthana’ dance ballet will be presented on February 19.

On the main stage, light music programme by Kikeri Krishnamurthy troupe, dance ballet by Prabhat Kalavidaru of Bengaluru and folk songs by Pichalli Srinivas and troupe will be the highlights on February 20.

On February 21, music and dance programmes by music director Gurukiran and troupe, singer Vijayprakash and troupe and Gurudeva Lalithakala Academy will be held, while Kappanna and troupe from Bengaluru will present folk songs and film actors will stage an entertainment programme on February 22.

Replying to a question on not providing any opportunity to local artistes, he said, some more programmes would be organised and the troupes were yet to be finalised. “Local artistes will be given priority in the next list,” he said.

Stating that the cultural committee has been given Rs 50 lakh, he said, more funds will be sought from the government. “During the formal inauguration on February 19, an idol of Cauvery will be taken out in a procession on an elephant along with 100 folk art troupes.” he said.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rohini Sindhuri said, 15 KSRTC buses will be deployed to provide free transportation for people to travel to Mandya city from all other six taluk headquarters.
