On secret excursion, teens drown in waterfall

Two students at Dayananda Sagar Institutions, who went on an excursion to Chunchi Falls near Sathanur in Kanakapura taluk of Bengaluru Rural district on Saturday morning but told their families they were going to college, have drowned.

Pradeep Joshi, 18, from JP Nagar, and Ravi Kumar, 19, are the deceased. Pradeep was studying first-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) while Ravi was a BCom student.

Lied to parents

They had told their parents that they were going to college. But when they didn’t return even late in the evening, their parents got worried and went looking for them but in vain.
Pradeeep’s father Lakshmana — who edits a right-wing Kannada weekly ‘Vikrama’ — lodged a missing person at the Subramanyapura police station on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, some local residents saw a bike parked near the falls on Saturday.

They saw it on Sunday morning too. Sensing something amiss, they called the police.
Fortunately, the Subramanyapura police had shared details of the missing person complaint with their counterparts in Sathanur.

Suspecting the students had met with an accident, the local police rushed to the spot and chanced upon a helmet and some clothes.

The details provided by the Subramanyapura police stacked up against these findings. Expert swimmers fished the bodies out of the waterfall on Monday afternoon.
