H1N1 death toll reaches 14 in State

The total number of H1N1 positive cases in the State went up to 144 on Wednesday while the death toll reached 14. Two cases of death due to H1N1 were reported - one each from Ramanagara and Mandya districts.  

The Department of Health and Family Welfare confirmed 13 new positive cases on Wednesday. Parameshwar (33) and Yogesh (55) died of the flu at Ramanagar and Mandya respectively.

Brijesh (33) has died of H1N1 flu at a private hospital in Mangaluru on February 9. A native of Kasargod, Brijesh was working in Dubai. There were two positive cases in Mangaluru. Four persons who were infected with the virus in Chikkamagaluru district have since recovered, district health and family welfare officer said.

 As many as 14 suspected patients in the State are being treated in Intensive Care Units and six others are under medical supervision in wards.


Even as the State Health department’s reports indicate that there are no deaths in Bengaluru Rural, Shanthamma, President, Zilla Panchayat, Doddaballapura, said that a woman had died of the flu in Dobbaballapura town.

The number of cases in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits has gone up to 78. A total of 28 cases in Bengaluru Urban, one each in Bengaluru Rural , Ballari, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad and Haveri, two in Chitradurga , four in Davangere, and two in Bidar have been confirmed.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U T Khader said on Wednesday that a meeting would be held with the heads of various private hospitals on tackling the situation.
