Awards plan revised

 The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has revised the scheme of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar, introduced in 2009.

The purpose of the 2009 scheme was to encourage and promote involvement of corporates, sports promotion boards etc., in the promotion and development of sports.

In the revised scheme, the award will be given in following four categories: Identification and nurturing of budding/ young talent, encouragement of sports through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), employment of sportspersons and sports welfare measures and sports for development.
SAI cadre restructured

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked Sports Secretary Ajit Saran to expedite restructuring of Sports Authority of India (SAI) cadre to streamline the functioning of the body.

Sonowal took serious view of the fact that SAI is languishing due to non-availability of officers and coaches to man it's more than 80 SAI centres spread all over India including North Eastern Region and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a release stated on Wednesday.

The Sports Minister asked Saran, who is holding the charge of SAI Director General, to hold atleast 9 Regional Centres and to effectively manage the SAI Centres especially in North Eastern Region and bigger states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh etc.
