Traffic jams on BG Road as BBMP truck topples

Last Updated 11 February 2015, 19:18 IST

A BBMP garbage vehicle toppled at Anepalya junction near Viveknagar on Wednesday, causing a huge traffic jam on Bannerghatta Road. In another incident, a tanker carrying phenol overturned and plunged over the flyover on Ballari Road off Chikkajala in the early hours of the day.

The BBMP compactor turned turtle while taking a turn on its way to Bannerghatta Road from Adugodi. As the driver, Sunil, tried to take a deep turn at Anepalya junction, the vehicle toppled. It took the Ashok Nagar traffic police personnel more than three hours to remove the truck and clear the gridlock.

The entire stretch from Adugodi junction to Bannerghatta main road was choked. A senior police officer said the driver was drunk and had been booked.

On Ballari Road, a tanker carrying phenol toppled after hitting a median. It then skidded off the flyover up-ramp near Meenakunte off Chikkajala. The incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday, said the police.

The tanker was coming from Kerala and going to Chhattisgarh. As it moved on the flyover, the drowsy driver crashed it into the median. The vehicle plunged over the flyover, 10 feet down.

“Fortunately, there was no traffic at that point of time or else there would have been some casualties. The driver escaped with minor injuries,” said a senior police officer.
