Karnataka women marched into the final of the National Games volleyball event with a terrific comeback win over Tamil Nadu in Kozhikode on Thursday.
In the semifinal encounter, Karnataka rallied to post a 28-26, 21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-6 win.
After winning the hard-fought first set, they were in trouble, going down in the next two. However, Karnataka nailed the crucial fourth set after a long tussle and then romped through the decider.
In the final on Friday, they will take on Kerala. The hosts outclassed Uttar Pradesh in the second semifinal 25-7, 25-10, 25-13.
In the men’s semifinal, Tamil Nadu edged Rajasthan 35-33, 25-22, 25-23. In the other semifinal Kerala defeated Services 25-27, 25-22, 25-11, 14-25, 17-15.
In the basketball event at Kannur, Karnataka men bowed out in the semifinals, losing 67-80 to Tamil Nadu. In the other last four encounter, Uttarakhand beat Services 71-57.
Karnataka also exited in the semifinals of the women’s event, losing 50-69 to Kerala. The hosts will play Tamil Nadu for the gold after the latter defeated Maharashtra 64-58 in thier semis tie.
The men’s singles badminton final will be between Sourabh Verma of Madhya Pradesh and Akshit Mahajan of Haryana.
At Kochi, Verma defeated Abhimanyu Singh of MP 21-18, 21-14 while Akshit got past Sameer Verma, also of MP 21-17, 21-18.
In the women’s singles semifinals, P C Thulasi knocked out Ruthvika Gadde of Telangana 18-21, 21-11, 21-10. She will play Rituparna Das of Telangana for the gold medal.
In the other last four clash, 18-year-old Rituparna beat Pardeshi of Madhya Pradesh 21-19, 12-21, 21-18.
