e-biz companies plump for IIMB graduates

The final placements for the PGP (postgraduate program in management) class of 2013-15 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) were completed on Friday with e-commerce firms showing a high-level of interest in the recruitment this year.

Two such firms, Amazon and Snapdeal, made 17 offers each, the highest made by any individual firm. Others included Flipkart, Urban Ladder, AskmeBazaar, Hopscotch, CarTrade, Proptiger, Quikr, Commonfloor and Ola Cabs. 

The placement process witnessed the participation of 398 students of whom, five opted out. About 25 students were offered international placements. As many as 134 pre-placement offers (PPO) were made to respective students before the start of the final placements based on their performance during the summer internship. Another 156 offers were made during the lateral placement season for candidates with more than 22 months of work experience. This is around 25 percent higher those offered last year.

Firms from the consulting sector made around 30 percent of offers. While The Boston Consulting Group made 16 offers, Mckinsey & Co and Accenture Management Consulting made 11 offers. Other firms in this domain included EXL, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bain & Company. Firms like Arthur D Little and PRTM Consulting hired for the first time this year.

Major consumer goods and services firms like P&G, Hindustan Unilever, ITC and Mondelez International made offers for a number of sales and marketing profiles. This also included telecom majors like Vodafone and Bharti Airtel as well as the West Asia-based retail firm, Alshaya.

Companies like Microsoft, Google, Samsung and Infosys made good number of offers. All prominent recruiters such as  Capgemini and IBM visited the campus. Many were also recruited for leadership and general management roles in conglomerates such as Aditya Birla Group, Tata Administrative Services (TAS), Reliance Industries Ltd, Siemens and General Electric etc.

As many as 150 plus companies participated and made more than 450 offers.

Professor Sankarshan Basu, Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIMB, said, “The 2015 final placements were extremely well-received and supported by all participating organisations. The entire process was smooth and organised given the large number of companies participating each day. We are thankful to all recruiters once again for reposing their faith in IIMB and recruiting in large numbers.”
