To bring in more reforms in the Revenue department, the government is planning to recruit 600 more land surveyors, said Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering of newly recruited surveyors during the felicitation ceremony organised at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds, Prasad said the government was working towards making the State free of podis, by strengthening the wing further with the recruitment of 600 additional surveyors.  A notification in this regard is expected to be announced by next week, he said.

Prasad claimed that there were many loopholes in the department, with the works related to podi pending due to the lack of surveyors.

Those who had been recruited earlier on the basis of job oriented courses had created further trouble, thus derailing most of the initiatives in the department.

As a first step, it was decided to recruit 1,800 surveyors to the department of land survey and records in 2013-14. In some cases, engineering and BSc graduates and also JOC holders had also applied for the surveyors post.

To enable all the interesting candidates, the officials have been asked to increase the minimum pass marks from 40 to 60.

The minister also advised the newly recruited surveyors to discharge duties at the allotted place, instead of seeking transfer to home districts on many other grounds.
Prasad also assured that the department would promote those surveyors who have completed 25 years in the realm.

Demands
The surveyors also submitted a list of demands to the minister that included relaxation of the minimum pass marks to 40 against 60, declaration of land survey revenue department as technical department, and promotion to those who have been working in the same post from the past several years.
