Last Updated 17 February 2015, 16:59 IST

Bengaluru-based Indian arm of the United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of two companies that the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has for the first time given approval for aerospace parts developed by the company in India and for use by manufacturers in the United States. With this approval, the Bengaluru unit is among the first Indian entities to domestically produce and export an aviation product to aircraft manufacturers in the United States. The approved product is a four-person life raft. The compact, lightweight raft enables passengers and crew in the aircraft to evacuate in case of an emergency landing on water.

Chris Rao, the VP, UTC Aerospace Systems, India told Deccan Herald that the company has been working with the Directorate General of Civial Aviation and FAA over a period of 6-7 years to obtain the approval.
