Newborns to be focus of pulse polio drive today

House-to-house visits to begin on Monday

 Round two of pulse polio drive for the year will be held on Sunday. Those vaccinated in the first round on January 18 would be vaccinated again in the second round.

This apart, the focus would be on children born after January 18.Children below the age of five would be administered polio drops and injections in the booths on Sunday, while house-to-house visits would be on February 23, 24 and 25.

“We will look for ink mark on the little finger of the child’s left hand. If the child is not vaccinated, we will be doing so during the house visits,” said a senior official from the department of health.

A target of Rs 75 lakh has to be achieved in the City. “This apart, during the one-month period from January 18, there may be about one lakh child births. These children will also be immunised,” the official said.

As many as 32,628 booths have been set up across the State in public places where the bivalent vaccination will be made available. A total of 51,558 teams have been formed by the government to administer the vaccination.

1.4 lakh volunteers

Over 1.4 lakh volunteers will be on duty in the booths, railway stations and bus stands to ensure maximum coverage.

To ensure that the migratory population is not missed out, 923 mobile teams and 2,162 transient teams have been formed.

The State had reported 99.91 per cent immunisation in round one of the drive. The least coverage was reported in Mysore at 95.01 per cent, followed by Chamarajanagar at 96.82 per cent.
