Henceforth, if you litter public places, you will feel a pinch on your pocket with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) warning of penalising the guilty.
According to MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath, the MCC will impose a fine on the public — individuals and institutions alike — for indulging in unhygienic practices at public places like roads, bus stands, railway stands, play grounds, parks among others, to keep the city spick and span, true to its heritage tag.
“If people are caught disposing garbage, spitting, urinating and defecating at such places, they will be imposed Rs 100 as first time fine and Rs 200 for the repeated offence. If the residents fail to bifurcate the waste at source — as dry and wet — before handing over to door-to-door garbage collectors, they will be fined Rs 100 and Rs 500 for first and second offence respectively. For traders, the first time fine will be Rs 500 and second time Rs 1,000. Dumping of debris will attract a fine of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
On the other hand, to educate the people — especially residents — 1.50 lakh dustbins in green and red colours are being distributed by the MCC. The green bin is meant to collect kitchen waste (wet) and red for other types of waste (dry). The wet waste should be handed over to the garbage collector daily and dry waste once in three days.
