New Wadiyar scion Yaduveer visits temples

Prayers offered at Ch'hill, Uttanahalli temples

A day after his adoption, the scion of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, visited the temples in the city, on Tuesday.

Yaduveer was adopted as successor to the late scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar in a traditional ceremony held at the Kalyana Mantapa of the Palace, on Monday.

Yaduveer, 22 years, accompanied by his adopted mother Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and his biological parents Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs and Tripurasundari Devi paid obeisance at Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill, also the family deity of the Wadiyars, and Sri Jwalamukhi Tripurasundaridevi Temple at S Uttanahalli on the outskirts.

At Chamundi Hill, chief priest Shashishekar Dixit welcomed the new scion at the main entrance of the temple, by garlanding him. The priest led the scion and others to the Ganapathi Temple, from where they were taken to the Chamundeshwari Temple in the same complex. They also visited Mahabaleshwara Temple atop the hill.

Shashishekar Dixit told Deccan Herald, “It is a tradition in the erstwhile royal family to visit the temple before and after every auspicious ceremony. No special pujas were held”.

Later, Yaduveer and others visited the temple at Uttanahalli. The temple officials welcomed Yaduveer with a garland. On their way from Chamundi Hill to Uttanahalli, they visited Markandeya temple.

On learning about the visit of the members of the erstwhile royal family, people had gathered in large numbers both atop the hill and Uttanahalli. At Uttanahalli, some villagers touched the feet of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar as a mark of respect.
