'Party is influencing probe against riot-accused MLAs'

Last Updated 25 February 2015, 02:22 IST

The Delhi BJP on Tuesday accused the ruling AAP of trying to influence the ongoing police probe against some of its legislators facing rioting charges in north Delhi.

Delhi unit media in-charge Praveen  Shankar Kapoor and BJP candidate for the 2015 Assembly Election Gopal Jha wrote to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and demanded that he should prevent the Delhi government from creating unnecessary pressure on the investigators of the case of rioting in the night registered on February 20 at Burari police station.

The letter said: “Although an FIR has been lodged against MLA Sanjeev Jha and Akhilesh Tripathi and six AAP workers under sections 147/148/149/186/353/332/427/580 of IPC for rioting, damaging public and private property and preventing the government employees in discharging his duty, police have not arrested the two AAP MLAs under government pressure.”

The BJP leaders said all the six AAP workers were presented in a court and their bail petitions were rejected and the court sent them to Tihar Jail.

All these offences are non-bailable.
Kapoor and Jha said it is a strange treatment by the AAP government as the two MLAs have been spared arrest but other workers involved in same case have been sent to jail.

“It demonstrates how much the Aam Aadmi Party leaders stand for the common man and the workers,” said Kapoor, alleging double-speak and hypocracry by AAP leaders.
