The students who gathered under the banner of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) also submitted a charter of demands to Transport Minister Gopal Rai.

“Today we lodged protest over lack of public transport connectivity for Delhi University. We submitted a charter of demands, including concessional Metro passes for students, to the transport minister,” AISA state unit member Sunny Kumar said.

Kumar said students studying in colleges outside the main campus suffer the most as they are forced to take autorickshaws, which make travel costly.

“The transport minister has promised us of taking up the demand raised by us,” Kumar told Deccan Herald.

“The Aam Aadmi Party had promised in its manifesto better and cheap commuting facility for students in the capital, so we are here to demand the fulfilment of their promises,” AISA DU head Anmol Kumar said.
“We will launch a bigger agitation if the government shows any reluctance in taking up our demands,” Anmol said.

“The bureaucrats’ insensitivity is hurting us; we hope the new government will help us,” said Pritish Kumar, a protester.

Dharampal, another student, said, “I travel everyday in Metro but for last-mile connectivity, I need to take the autoricshaw, which makes my travel expansive. I voted for AAP because they promised a better connected DU.”
