The Deccan Herald Theatre Festival 2015 drew to a close on a grand note on Saturday.Play Pen’s enthralling performance of ‘Marry Go Round’ at Chowdiah Memorial Hall was a crowd-puller. This was the last in the series of plays that were part of the festival this time. However, for those who missed it on Saturday, there will be a repeat performance at Rangashankara on March 10 and at Jagriti theatre on March 5 and 6.

Written by Sadiqa Peerbhoy and directed by Ashish Sen, the play is set in Hyderabad and is a comic take on arranged marriages in India. The story revolved around a mother who blackmails her son to fly back to the country from the US to look at ‘Khandani’ brides from Hyderabad, the unwilling son who does not make much out of his ‘Nawab’ lineage and how the mother eventually gives in to her son’s choice to marry a Hindu girl. The comic take on the melodrama had the audience in splits. They also got to meet the playwright herself at the end of the show.

Deccan Herald brought together the best of the theatre groups and plays as part of the festival this year. The DH Theatre Festival 2015 began on February 7 with the performance of ‘All About Women’ by Jagriti group. The play written by Miro Gavran was directed by Arundhati Raja.
