Peace unlocked in Kundadri

Kundadri, a hill station located in Agumbe Ghat range, is a  favoured place for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. It is a huge monolith with vegetation
cover, which pops out of surrounding dense forest.

The hill which is 826 metres above sea level, offers one of the best sunrise and sunset points. Peaceful surroundings of Kundadri, which is about 14 km from Agumbe towards Thirthahalli attracts hordes of tourists. It offers climbing and trekking possibilities for adventure seekers. There is a motorable road as well as a trek trial from the base to the top.

It is said that the name Kundadri is derived from a Jain monk Kundakundaachaarya who lived in the hill in the ancient times.

There is a rocky depression on the northern side. It contains a pond which brims with water throughout the year. A 17th century Jain temple exists on top of the hill.

There are stone sculptures of jain sages in the premises of the Temple.  The peak of the hill offers a spectacular view of nature’s beauty. While streams at the foothill run into the lush green forest, backwaters of the Varahi Dam glisten at a distance. One can either soak in the beauty of pristine surroundings or find peace in the Jain Temple.
