GPO ATM to be functional soon

General Post Office (GPO) authorities have said that the ATM kiosk, set up more than a year inside the office which was not in a working condition due to some technical snags, will become operational shortly.

Set up by Department of Posts and Infosys, the ATM facility will cater to postal Savings Bank (SB) account holders, initially.

A GPO official said: “We have also conducted trial and awaiting for the inauguration which will happen very soon. There is also a proposal and if things works out well, then the post office will be connected with banks also so that more people can be benefited.”

Chief Postmaster Ashutosh Kumar Hanjura said it took time for the system to be put in a place. He added that it will be maintained by AGS Infotech Private Limited in terms of loading the cash.

Apart from the GPO, other post offices in the city are also being identified for introducing the same facility.

WNX Facility

Meanwhile, the number of people using WorldNet Express (WNX) facility in the City is increasing by every year. Hanjura said, “The system enables people to book and send parcels across the globe to 200 countries. It is a quick and fast service that gives end to end track process. WNX is a  product of Postal department.”

The department staff stated that about 512 WNX parcels were made and sent at Bangalore GPO in the year 2011-12. About 728 parcels were sent in the next year. Similarly, in 2013-14, about 1203 parcels were exported and about 1521 parcels have sent in the 2014-15, till January. WNX, functioning from November 2008, is available at 65 post office centres approximately and  there are about 140 such centres in State.
